Brno - The Brno House of Lords from Kunštát will focus more on young artists in the future. After renovations in the attic, a space for residential stays will also be created, not only for visual artists but also for theater practitioners and writers. Šárka Syslová, spokesperson for the House of Art of the City of Brno, which has long been linked to the former residence of the Kunštát nobility, said this today to ČTK.

The city council of Brno approved the proposed changes in the use of the building this week. The councilors expect that the House of Lords from Kunštát will become a lively cultural center oriented towards the current generation. In addition to young Brno residents, artists from partner cities and scholarship holders from the Goethe Institute and the Austrian Cultural Forum will also present their work there. Plans also include collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology.
The House of Lords from Kunštát is a Renaissance building located on Dominikánská Street with a courtyard surrounded by arcades. Currently, there is a café named Trojka and Gallery G99 on the ground floor, which has long been monitoring young and progressive art, including conceptual works. The main exhibition halls are located on the first floor, while the attic houses storage rooms and technical facilities. Studios and facilities for artists’ stays are to be established in that area. The material approved by the city council estimates the renovations at 300,000 crowns.
The Renaissance palace became part of the House of Art of the City of Brno, whose main building is located at Malinovského náměstí, in 1958. In recent years, the operation of the House of Lords from Kunštát had to be temporarily scaled back due to austerity measures, but now the building is back in full exhibition operation, except for the summer break. In September, an exhibition of Hungarian art will begin in the main halls.
