German Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale

Armand Gruentuch and his wife Almut Ernst from the Berlin office of Grüntuch Ernst Architekten presented on Friday, June 2, 2006, at a press conference the concept for this year's German pavilion at the jubilee X. Venice Architecture Biennale. Under the title “Convertible City - Forms of Density and Disengagement”, 36 projects and realizations that untraditionally use urban spaces (rooftop football in Frankfurt, floating pool in Berlin, ...) will be presented. A separate episode is the treatment of the pavilion itself. The cool Neoclassical building will be temporarily encircled and engulfed by a red outdoor staircase, which will take visitors to a newly created rooftop terrace from where they can look out over the treetops across the entire Giardini area.
