Already tomorrow - on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 5:00 PM, there will be a ceremonial opening of the architectural exhibition Moments of Architecture in front of the Central Library halls of the Municipal Library of Prague (Mariánské nám. 1), in the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ole E. Moesby, the Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bém, the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Jan Dusík, and the Library Director, Tomáš Řehák.
The architectural studio "Un souffle sur la ville", the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the Municipal Library of Prague, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, present the exhibition Moments of Architecture. The exhibition will take place at the Municipal Library of Prague (Mariánské nám. 1, Prague 1) from April 3 to April 30, 2009. It will be open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
How to critically view architecture and its current issues? How to perceive real investments in architecture and sustainable development today? Can architecture based on the concept of sustainability and responsibility in relation to the environment and its users exist independently of advertising? In connection with the upcoming international climate conference, which is set to build on the Kyoto Protocol this December in Copenhagen, the exhibition Moments of Architecture aims to provide a showcase of contemporary architectural production in Denmark. It features an original cross-sectional installation of architectural works and raises questions about several fundamental principles of architecture that belong more to a specific intention than to a specific period. After Paris, Prague residents will have the chance to see the exhibition as the second audience in the world. We have selected twelve projects and brands of Danish architecture that address current questions in light of the demands posed by construction and sustainable development. Each carries its own idea of responsible, unique, and sustainable architecture, all sensitively considering the environment of the given place and reflecting the subtle handwriting of increasingly ambitious design conditions. The narrow selection includes prominent representatives of Danish architecture, such as KHR, Dorte Mandrup, Vandkunsten, and White Arkitekter, as well as profiles of less known firms like BSAA, CCO, COBE, SEA, Effekt, and Claus Hermansen Arkitekter. To initiate a dialogue, a workshop was organized in January 2009 in Copenhagen. This event concentrated all architects for nearly a whole week to engage in reflections and their intimate exchange. These exceptional moments, conversations transcribed into image and text also contributed to another exercise in live broadcasting: the conception of a personal model in a reduced scale, created from 200 wooden crates, for a project specifically downsized. During the hours designated for the workshop, all architects showed a new perspective on architecture and the properties of the same model. The result is a scenography of 2000 wooden crates, representing a coherent collection of works: symbolic architecture created based on the idea of a recyclable city, with references to Land Art and its spatial performances captured in situ. This transitional installation is conceived as a joint work by Julien Mizermont and Line Nelund Dross from the architectural studio Un souffle sur la ville. Hand-assembled crates stacked one on top of another radically transform the surroundings and reshape the conditions of our environment in terms of construction. The exhibition Moments of Architecture, which will last throughout the year and travel to several locations (Paris, Moscow, New York), projects our ecological consciousness into the international space.
