ARCHITECTURE GALLERY BRNO, 30.5. - 8.7.2007

Lecture: 30.5.2007, 16.00
Stephan Eberstadt (Munich) will present his work and the Ruksak House
lecture under the auspices of: Doc. akad. sculptor Michal Gabriel, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts VUT in Brno
at 18.30 the festive opening of the exhibition will follow in the Architecture Gallery

The project continues from a very successful exhibition that in 2003 presented unconventional family houses built using wooden load-bearing structures. The great interest from the lay public initiated the idea of creating a new, follow-up project that will show alternative solutions for family housing without material limitations, unique projects that bring new thinking and approaches to addressing housing issues, development and use of new materials and technological possibilities.
The publication and exhibition present twenty-one exceptional family houses or residential units, selected based on the following criteria:
  • realization period 1996 - 2006
  • exceptional architectural and functional quality
  • growing, compact houses
  • mobile, floating houses
  • energy-efficient to passive houses
  • seeking new housing possibilities
  • interesting locations in unusual areas
  • possibly unusual ways of use and combining multiple functions beyond the basic residential.
Selected houses from around the world will be presented in photographs, including design documentation, with commentary in Czech and fully in English. Twenty houses from the exhibition are realized, the twenty-first - the project of the Medusa house, represents a vision of the near future.
The project records current trends in the development of society and its demands
for housing, trying to describe, show possibilities, and approaches to solving the still very relevant issue of individual, family housing.

A catalog will be published for the exhibition.
