Transplant center in Brno has a new building, including equipment worth 3.5 billion CZK

Brno – The Center for Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery (CKTCH) today opened a new building on the grounds of the Faculty Hospital in Brno, with an investment including equipment of approximately 3.5 billion crowns. Of this, about 1.3 billion crowns came from European subsidies, 1.8 billion from the state budget, and the remaining part came from its own resources. This marks a completely new phase for the center, said its director Vlastimil Vajdák. CKTCH, which is established by the Ministry of Health, is one of the largest cardiac surgery facilities in the Czech Republic.

The center previously operated in the area of the Saint Anne's Hospital, but the facilities were no longer adequate. The new building provides significantly more support than the previous one. It consists of seven above-ground floors and two underground levels and connects to an underground parking lot. It offers patients 125 beds, which is 35 more than before. It also has more operating rooms, five instead of four. CKTCH has previously performed over 1,000 heart surgeries and around 130 transplants of vital organs such as hearts, livers, or kidneys annually. The new expanded facilities will thus allow an increase in the number of procedures and also reduce waiting times. The equipment includes nearly 1,000 new devices, including surgical lights, operating tables, and anesthesia machines.

"The opening of the new building does not mark the end for us; rather, it is the beginning of a new phase. We have modern facilities and technology, but the most important factors remain our employees, their expertise, and experience. We want to make the best use of the combination of a quality team with the new possibilities that the building offers for the benefit of our patients," Vajdák stated.

The opening was also attended by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová (both ANO), and Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for ANO). "CKTCH is one of the key facilities in Czech cardiovascular and transplant medicine. The new building provides conditions for further development of highly specialized care and allows for the experience of the top teams here to be utilized for the benefit of an even greater number of patients," Vojtěch noted.

The Saint Anne's Hospital, where CKTCH is now located, will use the vacated spaces for its own healthcare operations.
