Prague – The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has obtained a non-final building permit for the next section of the under-construction metro line D, which will consist of the construction of the Libuš metro station. This was reported by ČTK based on the pages of the Transport and Energy Building Authority (DESÚ) and confirmed by the company's spokesperson Daniel Šabík. Line D will connect náměstí Míru with Písnice and relieve traffic in the south of the city. According to the current schedule, the first section is expected to start operating in 2032.
The construction of the first section of the line from Pankrác to Ryšánka began in 2022. The second section to Nové Dvory, which includes tunnel excavation to Písnice, was initiated by DPP this June.
According to Šabík, obtaining a final building permit for Libuš is a prerequisite for the company to begin searching for a contractor to build the station. If construction can start by mid-2028, the first part of the line could begin operations in 2032, not just to Nové Dvory, but all the way to Libuš, added the spokesperson.
The start of construction for the second part of the line between Ryšánka and Nové Dvory has been delayed by more than two years due to proceedings with the antitrust office, which was addressing the tender for the supplier. On the new line, driverless trains will operate, which DPP is currently seeking in a tender, the results of which, according to the earlier statement from the company's director Ladislav Urbánek, should be known in 2028. The city also plans to deploy automatic trains on line C.
In addition to the section of line D from Pankrác to Písnice, there are plans to extend it from Pankrác to náměstí Míru. According to the current schedule, the entire route is expected to be operational by 2036. In the long term, the city plans to extend it all the way to náměstí Republiky.
Recently, Prague city councilors approved the names of the stations on the line. Two of them have experienced changes compared to the previously used working names. The station previously called Olbrachtova is now Ryšánka, and the second change is from Náměstí Bratří Synků to Nusle. On the other hand, the councilors did not approve the names proposed by the geographical commission: Tempo for Nové Dvory, Sídliště Písnice instead of Písnice, and Prameny for Depo Písnice. The final name of the station with the working title Depo Písnice will be decided later.
