In the first place of the competition was Vanda Kotková from the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague (FA), who shares the second and third place with her fellow student from the faculty, Roman Hrabánek, and Jakub Sedláček from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology (VUT), while three awards are going to the Faculty of Architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The competition, formerly known as the Best Urban Project, is organized by the Institute of Spatial Planning of the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague under the auspices of the Association for Urbanism and Spatial Planning and the Czech Chamber of Architects.

Results are usually announced simultaneously with the opening of the traveling exhibition of award-winning projects. “Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, we had to solve it differently this year,” said the competition secretary, Ing. arch. Vít Řezáč. The winners and all awardees were announced on the competition's Facebook profile and on the Faculty of Architecture's website on Wednesday, April 8, precisely at 1:30 PM. The exhibition - currently only online - will be there as well.

The competition is intended for all students who created a studio semester project registered as an urban project in the given academic year. Master's thesis projects cannot be submitted to the competition. The organizers decided on the international naming of the competition due to the expanding circle of organizing schools and the addition of further foreign faculties.

What makes the competition unique? It connects the academic sphere with experts outside academia. Most of the jurors are nominated from their ranks. They are leading architects, heads of project offices, employees of municipal offices, ministries, or chief architects of cities. Students, along with their educators, are confronted with perspectives from practice. At the same time, it provides a valuable overview of the approach to teaching urbanism at different universities. “The quality of the competition projects is relatively balanced; over the years, the graphical level has changed mainly due to the development of technologies, and students present the process leading to the outcome better. The works increasingly focus on solving public space or revitalizing neglected areas in cities," says the competition secretary Ing. arch. Vít Řezáč. Many winners continue to work in the field of urbanism or spatial planning. “Only at our faculty, Veronika Šindlerová teaches at the Institute of Spatial Planning or Laura Jablonská at the Institute of Landscape Architecture. The winner was also doc. Dalibor Hlaváček, head of the Institute of Design II,” adds Ing. arch. Vít Řezáč from the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague.

Results
In this year's edition, a total of 32 projects entered the competition. 11 projects came from FA CTU in Prague, 14 proposals from FA STU in Bratislava, 5 from VUT in Brno, 1 from the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague, and 1 from the Faculty of Architecture TUL in Liberec.

The jury's evaluation was accompanied by a rich discussion about the breadth, type, and various scopes of the submitted works. These included projects of public spaces, landscape works, as well as more extensive tasks for new neighborhoods. Traditionally, one regulatory plan was also submitted. The jury assessed not only the outcome itself and its scope but also the degree of individual invention and the quality and presentation of the process leading to the proposal. Although a total of 9 proposals advanced to the second round, the jurors agreed after a long debate on six awards. A final vote was held on those, resulting in the final ranking.

1st place
The winner was Vanda Kotková from the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague, Atelier Novotný-Koňata-Zmek, Institute of Design I, with her project Prague-re_vision/Bohdalec, in which she proposes a neighborhood with diverse development that utilizes its potential while simultaneously developing it and comprehensively addressing the challenging theme of one of the key locations for the city's development, the large development area of Bohdalec-Slatin. The jury appreciated her clear approach and thorough analysis, as well as the quality of the proposal. They also positively noted that the author thinks in layers, proposing focal points of the territory (centers of its development) and directions of permeability.

2nd – 3rd place
The second and third place were shared by two awardees. A student from the Faculty of Architecture at CTU in Prague, Roman Hrabánek, and Jakub Sedláček from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at VUT in Brno.

The work of Roman Hrabánek from the Faculty of Architecture at CTU, Atelier Kohout-Tichý, Institute of Building Science, concerns the design of A New Neighborhood in Olomouc. The jury praised its exceptionally well-thought-out concept of a new neighborhood on the extensive military brownfield site.

Jakub Sedláček in his project Brownfield Veletržní in Brno deals with the revitalization of the area of former clothing factories and its surroundings in the wider center of Brno. His proposal developed in the Urban Planning Studio of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at VUT in Brno impressed the jury with its simple and understandable execution and the convincing nature of the proposed urban structure. The jury appreciated his considerations on sustainability principles and specific measures that should be a natural part of every urban task in the current context.

Awards
The jury decided to award the pair Barbora Gunišová and Dominik Haviar from the Institute of Urbanism and Spatial Planning FA STU in Bratislava for their project Transformation of the Area - Dynamitky - Bratislava-Dimitrovka. The project stands out for its clear and understandable analytical part and a sympathetic level of zoom in the design portion. Last but not least, the jury was also impressed by the highly urbanistic assignment, which transforms the Bratislava area of 105 ha into an autonomous urban quarter.
The jury also awarded Bohdan Hollý from the Institute of Urbanism and Spatial Planning, FA STU in Bratislava for the project Kollárovo Square in Bratislava. His bachelor's thesis revitalizes an important public space in the center of Bratislava. The jury highlighted the solid analysis of public spaces in broader spatial contexts and the subsequent proposal offering diverse use of the space with consideration for the various needs of users and institutions located there. The jury also positively evaluated the ecological use of rainwater and the transportation solution through shared stops that allow for the use of autonomous personal vehicles.

The last awardees were Tomáš Kadák and Matej Mega from the Institute of Urbanism at FA STU in Bratislava, who received an award for their project Transformation of the Dimitrovka Area, Bratislava, a vast industrial area. In their justification for selecting this project, the jury mentioned the well-executed analytical part in which the authors explore broader contexts, analyze greenery, operational functionality, transport, composition, and the history of the area.
