A major international design competition is currently underway in France. The goal for architects, urban planners, and architecture students is to design a new courthouse in Paris and integrate it into the city's fabric. The results of the competition, which has the patronage of French Minister of Justice Pascal Clément and Minister of Culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, will primarily serve for media coverage of the entire project and to stimulate discussion about the most appropriate future architectural and urban design.
The chosen location is situated in close proximity to the French National Library by the Seine. Within the designated area is an industrial hall designed in the early 20th century by E. Freyssinet, which marked a significant advancement in the development of concrete constructions. Incorporating this facility into the new design will likely be one of the crucial evaluation criteria.
The deadline for submissions is October 16, 2006. Each of the top three designs will be awarded €40,000. Student entries will be judged separately, with €10,000 reserved for each of the five best submissions. Students must be enrolled in at least the 4th year!
Incredibly well-prepared materials, which include the necessary drawings, photographs, and videos, can be obtained from the competition's website www.competitionparisjustice.com >
