Plzeň announces an art and architectural competition for the design of a memorial for General Patton

The city of Plzeň announces through the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň an artistic and architectural competition for the design of a monument to General Patton in the Pětatřicátníků Park below the Great Theatre. This is a one-round and anonymous competition. "The monument to General Patton should express the personality of the general in relation to the historical context of the liberation of Plzeň. The method of processing is not predetermined. It is entirely up to the authors how they will interpret the work," says the director of the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň, Irena Vostracká. The purpose of the competition is to find the most suitable design for the monument and then initiate negotiations leading to the realization of the work. The seven-member jury will also include the grandson of General Patton, George Patton Waters.

“The competition is announced on July 27, 2009, in accordance with the competition regulations of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The deadline for submitting competition designs is set for the week from October 19 to October 23, 2009. The competition conditions and materials must be collected by October 16, 2009, at the latest,” adds the competition secretary from the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň, Eva Brejchová.

The competition conditions will be issued at the Department of Concept and Development of the City of Plzeň, Škroupova 5, in office no. 56 by the competition secretary Ing. Eva Brejchová, on working days from 9:00 to 15:30, in her absence at the secretariat of the Department of Concept and Development of the City in office no. 51.
