The Olomouc Regional Authority awarded the best constructions in the region

Olomouc - The new building of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine at Palacký University in Olomouc, the premises of Elpremont in Velká Bystřice, and the roundabout at the intersection of Dobrovského and Na střelnici streets in Olomouc have received the Building of the Year 2012 award for the Olomouc Region. The Governor's Award was given to the project for the renovation of St. John and Paul Church in Pobučí near Šumperk. The results of the competition were announced today in Olomouc.
     The Building of the Year competition for the Olomouc Region, in which 47 constructions participated this year, included a total of five categories: residential buildings, civic amenities and public space modifications, transportation and water management constructions, technological constructions, and reconstructions. The jury evaluated various aspects such as the architectural expression of the work, its overall contribution, spatial and functional solutions, and integration into the surrounding environment. An important element of the evaluation was also the impact of the construction on the environment.
     "Through this competition, we want to highlight and support architects, construction companies, and investors who have qualitatively changed and are changing the appearance of our region. I believe that in this way we succeed in setting value standards for further construction, sending a signal that aesthetic and craftsmanship quality pays off," said Jiří Rozbořil, the Governor of Olomouc, during the official announcement of the results.
     In previous years of the competition for the best building in the Olomouc Region, successful projects included the house on Labutí Street in Šternberk, the reconstruction of the Farmak company building, or the modernization of the railway line Olomouc-Červenka.
     The competition, which has been held since 2003, is organized by the Olomouc Region together with the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians active in construction. All winning constructions will be presented at the Stavotech construction fair, which will take place at the Olomouc Exhibition Flora starting Thursday, April 4.
