The self-government of the Greater Helsinki region (including Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen, Kerava, Tuusula, Järvenpää, Nurmijärvi, Mäntsälä, Pornainen, Hyvinkää, Kirkkonummi, Vihti, and Sipoo) and the Finnish Ministry of the Environment are announcing a conceptual competition titled Greater Helsinki Vision 2050.

The aim of the competition is to develop a conceptual plan for the use of this area in southern Finland, taking into account sustainable development, ensuring that the region is attractive for both living and business. The task is to present an overall vision for this area in 2050 and to support this vision with a detailed study.

A total of 500,000 EUR is allocated for prizes and rewards, of which 160,000 EUR is for the best proposal, 100,000 EUR for second place, and 80,000 EUR for the third best proposal. The remainder will be distributed among other awarded works, ensuring that no award is less than 10,000 EUR.

The competition runs from December 15, 2006, to May 31, 2007.
