Grand Prix Architects 2008 – National Awards for Architecture

Under the name Grand Prix of Architects 2008 – National Award for Architecture, the Association of Architects (OA) together with the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) announced the 15th edition of the competition exhibition of the best architectural works realized on the territory of the Czech Republic, with the completion date between January 1 and December 31, 2007. Both Czech and foreign architects, designers, and artists may participate in the competition. As in previous years, individual works will be judged by an independent expert international jury, which will include at least four foreign architects and a Czech critic, theorist, historian of architecture, or visual artist.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of the Environment, and the Ministry of Culture have taken patronage over the competition.

The organizers of the event decided to raise the prestige and quality of the competition by introducing some changes:

Competition Categories

were expanded to include the category of Family House;
compared to previous years, the categories of Architectural Design and Small Architecture have been merged with Artistic Work in Architecture;
this year's exhibition will therefore evaluate works in a total of seven categories – family house, new construction, reconstruction, interior, landscape and garden design, urbanism, architectural design-small architecture-artistic work in architecture;
awards and honorable mentions are given in each category, the main award is the Grand Prix of Architects, which will be awarded to the winning work of the entire exhibition.

Academy of Architects

a significant change is the establishment of the Academy of Architects;
by agreement, the chairs of OA and ČKA will appoint from among leading Czech experts the Academy of Architects, which will be an independent voluntary professional group;
its task and goal will be to seek out architectural works of high quality and invite their authors to participate in the competition exhibition Grand Prix of Architects – National Award for Architecture;
at the same time, any citizen of the Czech Republic can nominate a work for the competition exhibition, and the author of the work must then confirm this nomination by submitting an application.

Important Dates:

Submission of applications and competition panels: April 28 – April 30, 2008
Jury meeting: May 13 – May 17, 2008
Exhibition: July 2008 (may be changed)
