Roudnice nad Labem (Litoměřicko) - Roudnice nad Labem wants to make the baroque malt house of the local former brewery accessible. It is now looking for a construction company to renovate the space. The malt house should serve for organizing concerts or exhibitions, the town hall spokesperson Klára Kolorosová informed CTK today.

"The first step approved by the Roudnice councilors is to clear the malt house space and subsequently the cellars. A check of the functioning drainage channels under the brewery will also be carried out,"
said Ondřej Krajník, a member of the commission for the preservation of the brewery, about the current state of the building.

In addition to renovating the malt house, the selected construction firm must also ensure the brewery chimney, which is at risk of collapsing. Various cultural events could take place in the malt house. The first one, according to the spokesperson, could be held in September.

The city regained ownership of the baroque brewery in the spring of 2012 when it bought it from an American investor. The protected monument was acquired by Roudnice in 1996, but plans for its use fell through and the premises deteriorated. "The commission for its preservation has a clear vision for the future use of the building. The basis should be a new multifunctional cultural hall for about 400 visitors, which is currently desperately lacking in Roudnice nad Labem," said the spokesperson.

The brewery was built by the Italian builder Antonio Porta in the 1690s. Since the local soda factory ceased operations in the 1960s, the premises have been abandoned.
