BiographyArchitect and urban planner Katarína Boháčová-Fejo, during her years dedicated to study, interned in Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Seven years ago, she was awarded a doctorate in urbanism. In the following period, she accepted an offer for an assistant position at the Faculty of Architecture in Bratislava, where she connects practice with academic activities. She leads her own vertical studio Fejo&Hanáček, focusing on innovative forms in education, teaching, and publishing.
In her research area, she focuses mainly on the method of "Research by design," with which she tests new current tools, strategies, and trends in the creation of public spaces. Her connection to the international scene is also evidenced by her several years of promoting architecture in Slovakia, during which she regularly invites renowned global architectural personalities to lecture at the Faculty of Architecture and the Slovak National Gallery. She is the founder of the international conference on public spaces, PUBLIC SPACES.
In her practice, she regularly confronts her positions in architecture and urbanism in international competitions. She is a member of several working teams and actively participates in award-winning competitions: the pedestrian zone in Trenčín, the public space by the Synagogue in Trnava, the Expo SK pavilion in Dubai, the Váh Riverfront - Trenčín si TY, Passages Toronto, Ostend. Several of these are in the process of realization. Together with a team of authors, she has received several nominations for CEZAAR, the ARCH Award, and the Jurkovič Award for the works Park Jama. Along with her team, she is a laureate of the Park of the Year award in Slovakia 2019.
