Biography
Julien Descombes is a Swiss landscape architect who lives and works in Geneva. After his first introduction to architecture in the summer of 1984 at Harvard University, he began his architectural education at the Geneva School of Architecture (EAUG), graduating in 1990 under the guidance of Professor Herman Hertzberger. He served as an assistant to Professor Bernardo Secchi at the university. His first professional experiences were at the Genoese studio of Renzo Piano (1988-89) and at the studio of Herman Hertzberger in Amsterdam (1992-93). Since 1994, he has worked as an independent architect. In 1999, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Architecture (IAUG) at the University of Genoa, where he took courses in architecture and landscape from Georges Descombes and Michel Corajoud. In 2000, he co-founded the Geneva firm Atelier Descombes & Rampini with Marco Rampini, focusing on the development of public spaces, landscape architecture, and urban development. He regularly teaches at the Geneva School of Landscape, Engineering, and Architecture (HEPIA), where he supervises diploma projects.
