In 1915, he was called up as an engineer to the Ministry of War, initially to the air navigation design department. From 1916, he served as an independent officer in the department of industrial construction control, where he remained until the end of the war. During this service, he continued to hold his civilian position while also working on private architectural projects. In 1919, he settled in Brno as a civilian authorized engineer for architecture and civil engineering. After leaving Brno, he became the director of the technical department of the National Bank in Prague.
