The subject of the competition is the design of an architectural and urban planning solution for the center of Zlín - Naměstí Míru and its surroundings with an emphasis on the structure of public spaces. A part of the solution is the placement of a sufficient number of parking spaces for the needs of the city center. For parking, the placement of underground garages is anticipated below the square at Tomáš Baťa Boulevard, which will free up public space in the vicinity of the square - both in the adjacent streets and in the area at the corner of T. Baťa Boulevard and Osvoboditelů Street (the area in front of the church of St. Philip and James).
The subject of the competition is the verification of the area for the development of the quality of life in Zlín. A part of the competition is to find broader relationships between individual public spaces and resolve the relationship of Naměstí Míru to the main boulevard (the areas of the previously built residential block between the paved part of Naměstí Míru and Tomáš Baťa Boulevard, of which only one object remains to this day). The city is interested in building on history and thus allowing the construction of that part of the square. The proposal will also address public spaces in the vicinity of Naměstí Míru, taking into account the new capacity of underground parking - public spaces at the corner of T. Baťa Boulevard and Osvoboditelů Street, the streets adjoining the square, Rašínova Street, and the eastern part of Bartošova Street. It will be important to connect various social activities with the life of citizens and support further development of the city of Zlín, emphasizing aspects not only urban and architectural but also social, cultural, educational, ecological, and economic.
This is a two-phase design competition, with the first phase of the competition being conceptual, focusing on urbanism, the functioning of public spaces, operations, and solving traffic issues. In the second phase, the selected proposals will be developed in greater detail. For the second phase of the competition, the organizer intends to invite 6 participants. The proposal in the first phase of the competition will include urban and functional treatment of the entire resolved area, emphasizing the definition of the shape of Naměstí Míru, its relationship to the surrounding public spaces, and its integration into the surrounding buildings. A fundamental parameter will be the resolution of traffic including traffic calming in the form of underground parking. The first phase of the competition will consist of two basic stages of construction, the proposal, however, will describe the detailed staging of construction both within the first stage and primarily within the second stage.
