For centuries, people placed crosses in the landscape. Regardless of the motivation, the cross was always a point (source?) of spiritual energy. The area around Kadaň has suffered many wounds in recent history. Energy was literally extracted from it, transformed, and sent away. The landscape was dominated by figures representing the scales of gigantic monsters. Former small crosses symbolizing the human scale, the human figure of dual significance, both suffering and blessing, were mostly destroyed or stolen. Miroslav Lörincz strives to restore some of them. In various ways. The sandstone pedestal between Roklí and Úhošťany also lost its cross and lay toppled, half-buried and hidden in the undergrowth. Mirek is a friend; I once proposed housing solutions for his family, I follow his efforts and cheer for him. Inspired by the place, I proposed the form of the restoration of Wichterkreuz as a site-specific installation reacting to the context. The act was just waiting for an opportunity, which came with this year's Landscape Festival Kadaň 2025. On the occasion of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the returned cross was consecrated on September 14. It serves as a memento of recent history and a commentary on interventions in the local landscape. The cross is designed in the style of a lattice structure of a high-voltage pole. A play with scale in both the whole and in detail. A tiny Corpus Christi levitates inside the crossing. An intervention tailored to the place, nevertheless a simple metal cross, similar to the former catalog crosses made of cast iron.
