Sports facility Smrčná

The return to the use of natural building materials in architecture is becoming increasingly popular among both designers and the public. The multifunctional ASM ARENA sports field from the Zlín supplier and manufacturer of sports buildings and urban furniture in the picturesque village of Smrčná in the heart of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands is an example of this. The manufacturer sought a solution that would breathe new context into the purely functional sports structure in relation to the surrounding landscape while utilizing both traditional materials and modern architectural forms. The manufacturer placed uncompromising emphasis on harmony with nature, as well as on bold design. The result is a lively and organic structure that functions as a multifunctional sports complex and essentially creates a completely new urban element. The project's brief was intended to resonate as a combination of proven technologies with the perception of wood as a natural material with many advantages.

The massive wooden design of the fencing is inspired by abstract shapes, the natural chaotic growth in many directions (hence the name Vector), which, however, fundamentally contains a solid order. The structure therefore contains dynamic shapes but is also very solid, excelling in durability and long lifespan. Spruce profiles were used for the construction, and the metal structural elements made of galvanized steel that anchor the structure are mostly hidden within the wooden construction. The mesh filling consists of a catch polypropylene net, which is an excellent and safe alternative to regular fencing. The field is intended for various types of activities such as tennis, volleyball, basketball, or small-sided football. The changing room portals at the entrance to the field provide privacy when changing for sports and are also prepared for securing additional furniture elements such as benches, baskets, bicycle racks, and so on. The portals give the field static strength and also occasionally allow the entry of a service vehicle onto the field.

The Vector-type field is designed as a modular kit for several of the most commonly used playing area sizes. However, this is only one type from a whole range of original designs that the manufacturer offers in its portfolio.
