The main impetus for the renovation of the family house in Dolní Chabry was the need to expand the living area with a new extension, which created a parents' bedroom with its own bathroom. The renovation connected the expansion of the house with a complete transformation of its architectural expression and technical solution.
A significant motif of the design is the material continuity between the exterior and interior. The character of the house naturally translates into the internal spaces through plastered surfaces, light areas, and natural wood. The limited palette of materials and colors allowed for the creation of a compact whole, in which the individual spaces flow into each other seamlessly. The architecture here does not rely on contrasts or decoration, but on proportions and the play of light.
The extension sensitively complements the original volume of the house and strengthens its spatial logic. At the same time, adjustments were made to the window openings in the children's room, the enlargement of which allowed for a more intense visual connection with the surrounding and adjacent pond.
Part of the renovation also included extensive technological modernization of the building. The insulation of the building envelope was enhanced, and the original double-glazed windows were replaced with aluminum windows with insulating triple glazing. The original radiators were replaced with underfloor heating connected to a heat pump, which provides heating for the building and hot water. Photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof.
A concrete plaster was used on the façade, which became a unifying element of the exterior. The same material was also applied to the wall delimiting the terrace, making it possible to eliminate visible sheet metal details and achieve a cleaner architectural expression. The terrace is covered by a bioclimatic pergola in the shade of the window frames. The pergola is complemented by side screens that protect the seating area from the intense afternoon sun hitting the south-facing façade.
The interior is based on a minimalist approach and works with a limited material palette. The main unifying element is the light cast floor, which runs through most of the living spaces. Delicate gold accents combined with white surfaces give the interior a cultivated expression without unnecessary ostentation. Large-format tiles were used in the bathrooms, supporting the purity of detail and the optical integrity of the space. Air conditioning units are integrated into built-in furniture, and most storage spaces are custom-made, allowing for the preservation of a calm and visually uninterrupted character of the interior.
