As is the case with all roadside objects a border crossing is a specific environment that is not governed by the usual spatial rules. It is also an environment in which everything is created to fit the function while the aesthetics are unjustly neglected. Any building put up in such an environment has to stand out in order to be recognised in  its own right. The shop at the Gruškovje border crossing lies in a tight space between two roads. It has an undemanding programme and is perceived as a simple volume in which the surfaces are treated in two different ways. The roof and the longer sides are wrapped into gold wrapping paper while in the two remaining opposing surfaces the funnel shaped entrance and service access are located.
