NEMO
Architect: Renzo Piano
Address: Oosterdok 2, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Investor:NINT
Project:1992
Completion:1994-97

The NEMO is a building for the National Centre for Science and Technology, with all its interactive scientific and technological exhibitions, and is located on a small portion of land in the port of Amsterdam.
The structure alludes to a ship: it does not pretend to be a piece of city, but belongs to the harbour; it does not stand, but floats above the entrance to the tunnel, supported by a structure of underwater pilings. Through its form and colors the center perfectly integrates itself into the harbour landscape.
Surroundedn byt he sea, the building has the shape of a ship's bow lying on the entrance of a road tunnel. The copper panelled facade resembles the green shade of the water.
The occupiable roof of the center, with its gentle slope, acts as a public piazza.
