Limerick City Gallery of Art

Limerick City Gallery of Art
Architect: John A. O'Reilly
Address: Carnegie Building, Pery Square, Limerick, Ireland
Project:1997
Completion:2002, 2011

The original building is a Carnegie Free Library dating from 1906. For its new function as Limerick's City Gallery, Phase 1 works completed in 2002, re-worked the interiors, added a central 2-storey gallery space and a new “white cube” gallery space. Phase 2 works, completed in 2011, fully restored the landmark Carnegie Building and added new public spaces along the park edge to properly engage the building with its Park setting. The new Gallery Cafe and a Workshop space act as public rooms in the Park, anchored by the new Art Storage block which contains the Gallery's extensive Permanent Collection. The completed project provides a variety of first-rate exhibition spaces in a City Gallery that actively welcomes the public.
