Dom Vanek

The House Vanek is a concise title for a complex, layered space located at the intersection of architecture and fine art. It is characterized by multiple and ambiguous authorship, a dense memory, and an orientation towards an active, evolving future.

The house was conceived and realized by artist Imrich Vanek together with his wife Olga, according to a design by Štefan Svetko in the 1980s, as a form of hybrid living. It serves both as a residential space and a gallery, as a house and a pedestal. Creation and everyday life here were understood as inseparable. Although it was intended for two, it remained open to others – including cats.

The current articulation of the house arises through a continuous dialogue with Zuzana Bodnárová and Svätopluk Mikyta from banská st a nice, as well as with its current owners. This process strengthens the coexistence of several "homes" within one structure. Through a series of spatial and programmatic decisions, there is a reorganization of the boundaries between private and public, allowing for new forms of access and use of the house and its garden. At the same time, the intervention seeks to conduct a critical dialogue with the strongly imprinted original atmospheres.
