Newly Built Holiday Home, Blatno near Chomutov
Above Blatno, on the way to the forest, stood a cabin hidden by the road in a glade. The glades intersect the mountain meadows and divide them into individual strips in a contour manner. And it was this location, with unique views in all directions, that captured the investor's interest just as it did mine, the architect, for the creation of a home in the midst of nature that would look as if it had been there since time immemorial.
The winding access road led to the property of the cabin overgrown with greenery. In the middle stood a pair of mature beech trees, at a terrain slope of enormous boulders covered with moss. It connects to a glade full of heaps of collected stones from the fields and meadows, which now forms a unique landscape element in this part of the Ore Mountains.
From studying the site, the elongated silhouette of the house emerged, hidden within the existing growth of the glade, ending precisely at the terrain slope by the mature beech trees and boldly looking out into the meadows with a cantilevered glass gable. A mass was created with a narrative line, where the functions of the house unfold gradually—from the entrance to seating by the glass gable in the living area. Although I did not meet the requirement of having no stairs, the isolated location was a great advantage, with each cardinal direction offering an opportunity to utilize the views or events at the right time of day.
The living area is dominated by a fireplace, which separates the dining area from the elevated seating area. The dining area is connected to two cozy outdoor terraces—one facing west and the other east, each with its specific charm. Enjoying a cup of coffee in the refreshing morning sun under a more than hundred-year-old beech or savoring relaxation or social moments in the glow of the last rays of sunlight.
In creating the interior, the investor requested the collaboration of architects from the studio Čtyři stěny, who proposed a material solution referencing traditional architecture and sustainable materials that are environmentally friendly.
