Concrete house by the forest

A small concrete house on a picturesque clearing by the forest. For a married couple who decided to permanently leave the city and live in the tranquility of nature. A tranquility that resonates with the entire building and permeates it.
A minimalist structure on the edge of the forest is designed in the place of a former forestry lodge. The investor desired a simple concrete house that would be a natural part of the beautiful site. Nothing ostentatious or cold.
We designed a single-story cubic mass of monolithic concrete that opens into the open space of the clearing and is partly embedded in the gentle slope of the plot. The roof landscape of the building seamlessly connects to the grassy area of the clearing. Likewise, the curve of the access road to the building descends below the level of the ground and blends with the landscape. Just as the materials we used on the exterior of the building — concrete, wood, and corten.
The layout is conceived as a freely flowing space, utilizing the contact between the exterior and the interior. The heart of the building is the main living room, which is loosely connected to other living spaces. The seasonally changing view of nature is, thanks to the large-format glazing, a permanent part of the interior.
The interior is designed in a cohesive style with the exterior of the building. Exposed concrete is complemented by atypical black furniture and a wall made of copilit, which dominates the main living room. The cozy impression of the interior is enhanced by a clever play with light and subtle tones of textiles.
We photographed the house as it is regularly lived in. There were no arrangements made outside or inside. During the shoot, we were accompanied by the tomcat (the master of the house). On the kitchen counter, broth was simmering from the cow that grazed in a nearby meadow. "And write this down..." the investor told us when we were discussing the presentation of the building. And so we did.
