The artistic architectural competition for a work of art for the Vinice hill in Kolín has its winner. It is the design by architect Ing. arch. František Novák from Brno, who won with a proposal for an elevated peak with an arboreal chapel.
The subject of the competition was the design of an artwork of any artistic form in the space of Vinice hill on the outskirts of Kolín. Vinice is an artificially created hill; the site was previously used as a landfill for municipal waste brought in from Kolín. In the 1990s, the landfill was closed, sanitized, and reclaimed into its current form. Below the surface, at a depth of 40-70 cm, there is an impermeable membrane that must not be disturbed. The goal of the competition was to find a work that could engage with the context of the location and its history, as well as with the new spiritual significance of the place. A total of 37 proposals were submitted. Two were from authors in the Kolín area. In addition to Czech proposals, there were also submissions from Slovakia, one from the Netherlands, and one from Great Britain.

"It is only about experiences. Experiences from travels, experiences with friends, the experience of the first kiss, or the experience of a space. And such an experience from a space or place is also the main idea of the work"
described the author František Novák in his presentation. His proposal carries and connects the symbolic closure of the landfill and hill in the form of a solitary solution at the intersection of landscape and artistic work, which completes the silhouette of the hill. It is based on the import and shaping of soil, which will finish the artificial hill of the original landfill with a new peak. The proposal also offers a protected intimate place in the form of an arboreal chapel. This can also be perceived as a symbolic site considered for a Stations of the Cross or as a place for meditation. At the same time, there will be the possibility of seating on the outer side of the peak, which will thus offer two different worlds, two atmospheres, but still one place, one hill.

The first three proposals received financial rewards:
1st place Ing. arch. František Novák - 90,000 CZK
2nd place Ing. arch. Radek Talaš - 50,000 CZK
3rd place Milan Polián - 30,000 CZK

All proposals will be exhibited and presented from March 30, 2020, at the Business Incubator building in Kolín.
