In Silesian Ostrava, a sports hall costing 89 million crowns has begun construction

Ostrava – Construction of a sports hall costing more than 89 million crowns began today in Slezská Ostrava. Its completion is expected in the autumn of next year. It will serve not only for physical education classes at the neighboring Agel Secondary Health School but also for the public and sports clubs and associations. This was stated by the mayor of Slezská Ostrava, Richard Vereš (ANO).

The construction began with the demolition of the original gymnasium, which was no longer adequate in terms of capacity and technology. "The new sports hall will replace the current gym. We have long sought a grant for this construction, as we have had the building permit since 2020. However, due to the constantly changing conditions of state subsidies, we were unable to obtain funding. Therefore, we decided to continue independently, and the city district will finance the project," stated Vereš.

According to him, the district won the construction in a public tender at a relatively favorable price and also has savings from last year's budget surplus. "There is still a general lack of sports facilities in Slezská Ostrava, especially covered ones. Halls for the public and sports clubs are not available. For this reason, I believe many people will find their way here. At the same time, there is interest from sports clubs, especially youth basketball and floorball teams that want to use the hall. The Sokol Koblov complex is nearby, so we expect that especially in the winter months, their football players will also use the hall," added Vereš.

The hall will provide facilities for various types of ball sports. In addition to basketball and floorball, it will include handball, volleyball, and futsal. It can also be converted into six badminton courts. The building will be divided into three large blocks. The central block will house the sports area with a playing surface and a stand for 100 spectators. The eastern part will include facilities with changing rooms and club rooms, while the western part of the building will serve as a technical facility and will also house tool storage. The hall will serve the school's needs in the morning and athletes and the public in the afternoon.

The district is already preparing another project that will focus on the surrounding area of the sports facility. New parking areas and additional smaller sports fields with artificial turf will be created.
