The design of the new home for the elderly in Bohumín will be created by a studio from Brno

Bohumín – The design of the new home for seniors in Bohumín, Karviná region, will be created by the Brno studio Kuba & Pilař architects. The studio won the selection procedure. The concept of the future complex for 100 clients will be presented to the public by the city at the beginning of December. The construction of the home could begin in 2028. The information was shared with journalists today by the city hall spokesperson Jana Končítková.

"Bohumín is expecting a design from the renowned studio that will link functionality with a pleasant environment while also creating a building with a distinctive appearance. It is intended to become a natural dominant feature of the new neighborhood Na Panském II, located close to the city center between Šunychelská and Mírová streets,” stated Končítková. She added that in further phases, rows of houses and apartment buildings are planned to be added there.

The architects are expected to submit their proposed solutions by the end of November. "The complex will consist of two two-story pavilions connected by a corridor. One will serve as a classic home for seniors, while the other will be a home with a special regime for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia,” said Jan Hock from the development and investment department of the Bohumín city hall. He added that a smaller park with a relaxation zone, a pergola, benches, and walking trails is expected to be created in the outdoor area. The interior should include a winter garden, a chapel, a doctor's office, and a space for visits.

The new home for seniors, costing more than 300 million crowns, will be the largest investment in the modern history of Bohumín. The facility is also partially intended to serve people from Rychvald and Dolní Lutyně in the Karviná region, which will financially support the construction, along with the Moravian-Silesian Region, which has committed to supporting it with 80 million crowns. The first clients could move in by 2030.

"The interest in residential social services is already enormous. The population is aging, and with the increasing number of seniors, the demand for this type of facility will continue to grow. We want the people of Bohumín and its immediate surroundings to have the opportunity to stay where they have their roots. This is an investment that will affect life in the city for decades to come,” stated the mayor of Bohumín, Lumír Macura (independent).

The studio Kuba & Pilař architects is also behind the architectural design of the residential building Ostravská brána, the Omega department store in Brno, several university buildings, and the Black Cube – the Center for Digitalization, Science, and Innovation, which is currently being developed in Ostrava. Bohumín will pay 470,000 crowns for the preparation of the study.
