Chrudim - Chrudim will not buy the property of the former military repair company, known as the depot on the road to Pardubice, from the state. The army is demanding 158 million crowns for it, which the city cannot afford. Mayor Jan Čechlovský stated this to the journalists. "The price proposed by the Ministry of Defense is unacceptable, so the council rejected the purchase. We will formally present it to the council, but I think the discussion will be very quick," Čechlovský said. The demanded amount is beyond the city's means during the economic crisis. This year, thanks to 50 million crowns from European subsidies, Chrudim has about 200 million crowns for investments. The army wants to sell the depot through a tender. "The Ministry of Defense is currently registering three interested parties for the purchase of the property," informed Jindřiška Verešová from the Ministry's press and information service to ČTK. The possibility that the property will not be sold and that the price will decrease in subsequent rounds of the tender is considered premature speculation. The future owner of the depot will encounter significant problems when planning its use, as the city hall holds the trump cards. "The zoning plan stipulates that the property can only be used for military purposes," said Deputy Mayor Petr Řezníček. Chrudim previously assumed that it would acquire the military property, as many other municipalities have in the past, through a gratuitous transfer. However, former Minister of Defense Vlasta Parkanová announced in 2007 that the army would sell this property. Last year, the army demanded 198 million crowns for it, while the city's expert assessment was around 100 million crowns. After further negotiations, the price was reduced to 158 million crowns, and Chrudim had the option to exercise a right of first refusal. In the past, Pardubice Region was also interested in a part of the property. They wanted to build a depository for the local Regional Museum and the Pardubice East Bohemian Gallery in the area. These plans have now been abandoned.
