Brno - The Brno waterfront could offer food stalls in the spring, and later, a café will be added on Rullerova embankment. The Brno-střed district officially took over the spaces of the colonnade and café under a decision made by Brno representatives on Tuesday, and is now working to ensure that people can buy refreshments as soon as possible. This was reported by municipal spokesperson Michal Šťastný.

The flood protection system in the stretch from Riviera through Poříčí to the railway viaduct on Uhelná street was completed by the city last summer when it received a permit for early use of the construction. The project cost 1.5 billion crowns excluding VAT and took three and a half years. A significant benefit is the possibility of urban development around the Svratka River. The investment has also created new opportunities for leisure activities for the people of Brno. However, there are no refreshments available there.

The Brno-střed district has now announced a tender for the occupation of three stalls on the colonnade. "Interested parties can apply until March 11. In the coming days, we plan to announce a tender for the establishment of two market places for light refreshments, opposite the Faculty of Architecture at VUT and in the wetland area towards the Riviera," said Deputy Mayor Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO).

The selected operators could open their stalls for the first time in the spring. Later, the city plans to open a café. An architectural study addressing the layout and interior has been prepared, and now, with the management of the building entrusted, a tender for a contractor is being prepared. The company will modify the construction to meet the requirements for gastronomy operations.

"After obtaining the building permit, we will announce a tender for the future operator of the café. One of the main conditions will be that they offer a range of products that corresponds to the recreational character of the waterfront, focusing on local products, and at the same time providing public toilets for visitors to the embankment free of charge," added Mayor Vojtěch Mencl (ODS).
