The reflecting pond at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington has turned green due to algae

Washington – The reflective pool of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, which was painted pool blue by American President Donald Trump, has turned green. The reason, as reported by Newsweek magazine, is the proliferation of algae. This has been a long-term problem for this body of water, but many people on social media speculate about possible sabotage by Democrats, who allegedly want to harm Republican Trump in this way.

Trump criticized the previous renovations done during former President Barack Obama's term, claiming they were expensive and unsuccessful at a cost of 34 million dollars (708.6 million CZK). He estimated the current repair, which he claims fixed water leaks, to cost between 1.5 to 2 million dollars. However, according to federal records, it ultimately cost 14 million dollars. The blue paint used to coat the bottom has drawn criticism from parts of the public and some preservationists. Trump dismissed the objections and compared the color used to the blue on the American flag.

Trump also justified the current repair by referencing this year's celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of independence. Newsweek has now reported that in recent days the water body has quickly turned green due to algae. This similarly occurred after the renovation during Obama's time. Newsweek stated that algae are a traditional problem in the shallow waters of the pool during warm weather.
