Nový Jičín reopened the swimming pool after a year-long reconstruction costing 110 million crowns

Nový Jičín – Today, after a year-long reconstruction, Nový Jičín officially opened its swimming pool. The city hall paid 110 million crowns for the work and equipment. City Hall spokesperson Marie Machková told ČTK that the facility will operate on a trial basis for a year so that the contractor can address any deficiencies. The original outdoor pool was from 1979.

The new pools feature stainless steel basins, additional children's attractions, a waterslide, and two whirlpools operating year-round. The children's pool is two-tiered, designed for both smaller and larger children, separated by a stream and complemented with entertainment features. Two whirlpools with massage jets have been added, which will be in operation year-round, and access to them will also be possible from the indoor covered pool.

"The current waterslide has a sliding length that is more than eight meters longer than the original one. The closed tube is illuminated in places by various patterns, which is very impressive," said Miroslav Klimpar from the city’s department of development and investments.

The pool is equipped with the AngelEye drowning detection system, which, according to the spokesperson, is found in only three other facilities in the country, but the one in Nový Jičín is the only one with a length of 50 meters. "This system uses artificial intelligence to evaluate the movements of people in the water and assists lifeguards. Because the bottom of the pool is poorly visible due to light reflections, waves, and the number of people, underwater cameras capture the activities of swimmers. There are 28 cameras, and two more are positioned outside the pool. The cameras overlap, and every spot in the pool is seen by at least four cameras from different angles," described the system Vice Mayor Václav Dobrozemský (ODS).

He stated that in terms of finances and the scope of work, it was one of the largest investment projects in the city in decades. "As a guarantee, we have also signed an agreement with the contractor to monitor the technological equipment for another year from the start of operation and to address any defects and deficiencies," added Dobrozemský.
