Prague - In the architectural competition for the educational center of Prague Castle, which is to be established in the so-called Mocker or Canon houses, the Prague studio RDTH architekti emerged victorious. The reconstruction of two unused Neo-Gothic houses near the castle square U svatého Jiří could begin within three years. The castle published information about the ranking in the competition and the winning project on the website.

The castle announced the competition last year. Both houses adjacent to the ecclesiastical New Provostry date from the late 19th century and were designed by castle architect Josef Mocker. Since the 1950s, the houses have served as a large-capacity dining hall, with the current interior design dating back to the 1990s. A recent project to renew dining services at the castle was not implemented.

RDTH architekti, founded by René Dlesk and Tamara Kolaříková, proposed a generous entrance hall connected to a bistro, which serves as a natural background for visitors. According to the jury, the advantages of the design include permeability and flexibility across all floors, allowing the space to be adapted to various types of activities. Emphasis was placed on accessibility.

"The design restores the original entrance, sensitively responding to the historical environment and respecting the character of the surrounding buildings, both in appearance and in the materials used," said the director of the Administration of Prague Castle, Pavel Vyhnánek.

According to the head of the castle's education department, Lucie Štůlová Vobořilová, the architects also proposed a multimedia hall in the basement. The project is expected to feature modern technical facilities as one of its advantages.

Other awarded designs were created by the studios Roman Brychta Architekti and Jinjan.

After the gradual closure of the former House of Children and Youth in the High Burgrave, Prague Castle lacks spaces for children, youth, gatherings, and education. The educational center is intended to take over the role of the former house. The construction is expected to begin within three years, but the Administration of Prague Castle has not disclosed the costs.
