Known for his quiet yet carefully designed houses, Japanese architect Yasushi Horibe “is an architect who has continued to consider with honesty what it means to dwell and to live.” This edition of ‘JA’ is devoted to his work, and opens with a thoughtful essay by Hiroshi Naito. Horibe’s emphasis on residential design lends his work an aspect of spare beauty with clear interior spatial qualities. Through plans, sketches and marvellous photographs, 27 of his buildings are examined chronologically, from his first House in Satsuma to his most recent creations, like the Library in Asagaya and House in Ichihara. Five insightful essays by Horibe complete the volume.
