The Shed is a temporary theatre designed by Haworth Tompkins for the National Theatre in London. The new building replaces the Cottesloe Auditorium that is being restored. The artistic program of the Shed, explores new theatrical genres that require an equally unconventional space. The new building, designed and built in just over a year, enjoys a strategic position in the main entrance of the main edifice, next to the river. With a capacity of 225 seats, the steel structure is imposed in the context with an outer coating of rough wood that is painted in red. The thickness of the texture of the facade is a clear reference to the cement striatum of the National Theatre, while the slender corner towers will reproduce the play of solid volumes. The bright red colour and the absence of an opening give the geometric volume a distinctive character that put him in a prominent position.
