La Orotava Botanical Garden

La Orotava Botanical Garden
The extension for the botanical garden situated in the Puerto de la Cruz municipality  includes the terrain that the great masonry wall goes around. The terrain consists of 35.000 squared metres in extension and it is situated between the 119 and 134 limits above sea level. The execution of the project to grow a garden and new installations for the acclimatisation garden of La Orotava, is developed by assignment from the Instituto de Investigaciones Agrarias.
The new garden will complement the exposition, educational, socio-cultural and scientific functions which are normal for a botanical garden, giving the garden a historical potential value, with the emphasis on the creation and treatment of  tropical botanical ambiences, which, for a period of more that two centuries, have identified the physiology of this institution.
It should also be taken into account the popularising of the most representative tropical ecosystems of the American continent. The representation of these tropical ecosystems has a double finality to bring them closer to the European world and to give meaning to their urgent need of conservation and restoration. This will also be to the advantage of the visitors pavilion  which will be visited by over four hundred thousand visitors each year.
The proposal integrated inside the enclosure of the terrain destined to be extended, contemplates the extension of the garden area transforming the present relief with the building of a greenhouse and a visitors’ pavilion, a network of rivers, waterfalls and a lake zone.
