Usera public library José Hierro

Usera public library José Hierro
Address: Avenida de Rafaela Ybara 43, Madrid, Spain
Contest:1995
Completion:2003

A competition won with the proposal of a public library in the shape of a tower. Without doubt this is a little orthodox arrangement and a signal of the cultural identity of the neighbourhood. The halls, the great heights and the atmosphere in semidarkness control the vibrations of the light thanks to a dark floor, satinated ceilings and wallpaper designed by Peter Halley. The furniture provides artificial light and some “cracks” in the facade fragmentize the relation with a dull environment into small views which recompose an interesting world. The essence learned in these urban periferries, culturally diverse where radical transformations throb, helps us to define the architecture of new projects in need of a high impact in its environment.
