The principal architectural feature is the building's long, wall-like street facade. It conceals the embassy building, which is organised about a peaved courtyard and separate residential wing with its own yard and gardens. The embassy's official suite opens out towards the open landscape of Gärdet through one of the gardens.
An embassy building has a symbolic function; it must represent its country in a diplomatic way while interpreting the codes of its location. The Finnish Embassy in Stockholm does not portray Finland as a wonderland of high-tech culture. On the contrary, it attempts to communicate on the level of the collective memory of the two countries. The architectural perspective has been extended along the time axis to a greater magnitude as usual.
Although the building has been tailored to this specific location it also features some of the architect's favourite themes, mannerism some might say, reused in a new context.
