TKK Dipoli

TKK Dipoli
Address: Otakaari 24, Otaniemi, Finland
Contest:1961
Completion:10.1965 - 9.1967

The Student Union Building Dipoli was materialized in 1966 after a two-part competition won by the architects and spouses Raili Paatelainen and Reima Pietilä. The building is an excellent example of Pietilä works, unique and diversified and at the same time descriptive of the students' spirits, having as façade material natural rocks, copper and plate with poured unfinished concrete. The building is today serving as a conference center.
The fenestration at Dipoli uses the proportion of the forest as part of the elevation of the building.
Dipoli is a finish national interpretation of the popular theme of cave dwelling popular in the 1960's. The undulating concrete ceiling of the cve is transformed on the outside into a series of copper clad promontories  jutting out mysteriously amid the slightly grotesque heaps of stones.
