Biography
Klas Anshelm was a Swedish architect. Anshelm grew up in Gothenburg, and studied at Chalmers University of Technology. After completing his architectural degree in 1940 he got a job with the very productive Hans Westman in Lund. After four years with Westman, he moved to Stockholm to the architectural firm Wejke & Ödéen. Gunnar Wejke who was head of the Building Board’s Policy Department made sure that Anshelm was commissioned to design for the University of Lund, which was facing a major expansion. On condition that he established his office in Lund. In 1947 he moved back to Lund with his family. His architecture was built on the southern tradition of bearing massive walls of bricks. He did not hesitate to use raw and unprocessed materials, which has given the buildings a heavy and harsh character.
